Introducing Owen Emerson :)

Owen Emerson was born on February 27, 2012 at 7:40 PM weighing 8 pounds 1.5 ounces and 20.5 inches long and perfect in every way. He is a dear little love-bug and we are smitten.

Owen Emerson's Birth Story

In labor, but a few hours from going to the hospital.  39 weeks 1 day.

In labor, but a few hours from going to the hospital.  39 weeks 1 day.

I woke up at 830 that morning to a big contraction that I just KNEW wasn't a Braxton Hicks.  I started consistently getting contractions every 15 to 20 min after that all day. I labored at home per the on call nurse's instructions to wait until they were 5-7 min apart before coming in.  By about 300 I was in so much pain and my contractions were coming about 10 min apart and lasting about 2 minutes each.  We called the nurse to see if they would admit me, but headed to the hospital anyway.  I waited in the car outside the hospital for the nurse to call with the go ahead and then went in.

As soon as I got out of the car I started having contractions about 4 minutes apart and had at least 2 in the parking lot before we got into the hospital.  I had a couple more contractions in the wheel chair on the way up to labor and delivery.  They put us in a triage room in L&D and I swear we waited for a half an hour.  By this time I was panicked!  I knew Owen was coming soon because my contractions were coming fast, lasting long, and now they were getting so close together. The nurse came in after what felt like forever.  She checked me and said I was dilated 7 cm.  I started to panic and cry that I wasn't ready and that I needed an epidural.

They whisked us into a delivery room and I don't think I have ever seen so many people rushing around prepping.  They checked me again and I was at 8 cm.  My doctor was standing by and the anesthesiologist was too.  I started crying because my doctor was already there, and I thought that I must be about to have the baby.  I was terrified that I would have to do it without any pain relief.  They said that I needed to have a whole bag of IV fluids before they could do the epidural that it might take an hour! I begged to just let me have it, they had me sign some papers and I got my epidural.  Once it took, I was feeling great.  The doctor checked me again and they said I was ready to push!  My Mom and Dad were about 30 minutes from the hospital and had been driving all day to get there in time.  I asked the OB if I could wait to push until they got here and he said, as long as you don't feel like you have to push we can wait.  Mom and Dad and Eric and Molly were all at the hospital in time for Owen to make his debut.  Brandon, Molly and Mom all stayed for the delivery and it was amazing to share with them.  I pushed through two contractions, about six pushes and Owen arrived at 740 PM on Feb 27, 2012.

Finally feeling good after my epidural, whoa, was it intense until then!  9 cm before they got it done, and I was panicked it might not happen.

He's real! That was what I said when I saw him for the first time.  It was the first time I felt like he was real and not just an abstract "baby" anymore :)

Holding onto Daddy, "Whoa, what just happened?  Glad I have you here to hold my hand, Daddy."

Jamie was so thrilled to meet Owen for the first time and it was one of those magical family moments we will remember forever.  He was just as enamored with Owen as we were :)

 So proud :D

Our happy little family of four!

Auntie Molly!

Nonna and Dzia Dziu got there just in time :)  The awesome Dr G. let me wait to push until Mom and Dad got here from Naples :)  It was so great that my parents were able to be here this time.  Such a special time!

Trying out his new camera from Owen.  On they way home that night, J grilled Brandon.  "How did Owen get me this camera?  Owen didn't buy this camera for me, you did." He is too smart... little stinker

Going home!

Home and laid out flat, the way I spent the next almost week until the spinal headache went away.

Mini photographer, makes me proud :)
